Your fears are a kind of prison that confines you within a limited range of action. The less you fear, the more power you will have and the more fully you will live. In the beginning of mankind, fear was a basic , simple emotion. We confronted something such as a threat of death or natural disaster and we felt fear. Overtime as we became more civilized the fears that we faced seemed to lessen in intensity as we gained more control over our environment. Unfortunately, the level of fear did not diminish but instead multiplied. We know had fear of our status, what people thought about us, losing our job, providing for our family and much more.
Fear is an interesting dynamic. As we give in to our fears we actually lose energy and momentum. We lose confidence and our drive to succeed. If you view everything through the lens of fear, you tend to stay in retreat mode looking for that comfort zone. Many people fear losing their comfort and security and are very sensitive to the slightest risk or threat to the status quo. Being conservative, due to this fear, can force you into a corner in which you are more likely to lose what you have in the long run because you also lose the capacity to adapt to change. In each stage of your life you will be tested and the odds will be placed against you. Instead of giving in to fear you must raise your level of boldness and push forward. You must move from a defensive posture into an offensive posture. You must become fearless in your drive and ambition.
Think back when you were a child. What dreams and aspirations did you have when an adult asked you what you wanted to do when you grew up. Many people wanted to be the President, and astronaut, a doctor and the list goes on. What happen to those dreams. The fear of failure set in as we became older and we settled in the the comfort and security zone. We feared challenging ourselves and taking risks to improve our status or financial security. This fear placed us in a positioned where we settled for the comfort and security of a paycheck. We became afraid of life’s challenges and this pattern held us captive with the employee mentality. We gave in to the cycle of fear.
Understanding this principle can help you redefine your life. You can turn a previous fear into the fuel that motivates you and changes your life. Many people are looking into Network Marketing during this tough economy. The problem is they do not understand fear. They call their business their Plan B. The problem is as soon as the going gets tough and the fear of failure sets in they retreat to comfort and security zone. As we discussed earlier, this is setting them up for more problems such as downsizing and plant closings.
Success requires acts of boldness and confidence. Now is the time to stop drifting through life and wake up. It is time to assess yourself, the people around you and the direction in which you are headed in as cold and brutal light as possible. You must complete this task with honesty and no FEAR. You must learn to deal in the reality of the situation. There is a big difference in becoming a realist and not a dreamer. Dreamers tend to misread the actual state of affairs and act upon their emotions which is a monumental mistake. Realism is what we all must aspire to.
Remember this very important fact. If we succumb to the illusion and the comfort of a paycheck, we then neglect to build up self-reliant skills and merely postpone the day of reckoning when we are forced to fend for ourselves. It is never too late to start. Let today be the first day of the rest of your life!!
Jerry – this is by far one of the best blogs I’ve read in a while. I especially like what you said about realism. No more day dreaming and living in “la-la” land while hoping things will just fall into place for you. Beautifully written…I raise my glass to you Jerry!
